What did we do?
Although the farm was a well-established business, creating a branded product and finding new markets for it was in effect creating a new business separate from existing operations. A brand had to be created and protected, and pricing and distribution issues into a complex multi-channel market had to be overcome. There was also resistance to new ideas from some established areas of the market but persistence and continued profile building paid off.
What did we achieve?
Norfolk Peer new potatoes were successfully launched into 20 regional Asda stores. The launch was supported by an extensive consumer and trade PR campaign. Sales were 50% above forecast and the initial trial was extended to stock Norfolk Peer new potatoes for the rest of the season. Work is continuing on developing additional new products with the existing brand.
We were proud that Heygate Farms won the President's trophy for the Best Trade Stand at the Wayland Show, August 2011.
